What does CASEL stand for?

The Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning, or CASEL, is an advocacy organization that advances the development of academic, social, and emotional competence for all students. Their mission is to make evidence-based social and emotional learning an integral part of education from preschool through high school. Through research, practice, and policy CASEL works to ensure that schools and teachers have access to SEL programs that help all students become knowledgeable, responsible, caring, and contributing members of society. CASEL also defined the five SEL competencies which are widely used today, including Self Awareness, Self Management, Social Awareness, Relationships Skills, and Responsible Decision Making.

Is moozoom CASEL approved?

moozoom uses the CASEL framework as the organizing structure for our curriculum by aligning all lesson and quiz content to the five CASEL competencies. In this way, we are a rigorously CASEL-aligned curriculum.

moozoom is collaborating with researchers at SRI International (formerly Stanford Research Institute) to build our own assessment. Since our pedagogical approach uses cinematic video to engage learners and effectively teach SEL, we wanted to ensure that we have an assessment that measures skill acquisition appropriately. Our measurements will provide rich data that will allow each school using moozoom to directly evaluate our program efficacy with their own student population on an ongoing basis.

While CASEL approval offers valuable support for schools who are trying to choose an SEL program, moozoom will offer our customers assessment tools that capture the power of moozoom’s pedagogical approach. For these reasons, moozoom will not apply for the CASEL program review this year as we are focusing on building our unique measurement and assessment tools with SRI International.
